    About the Network

    Why was LRN Created?

The Lake Chad Research Network brings together individuals and groups in one central network to connect, collaborate, and share knowledge for improved research and sustainability outcomes in the region.

    Breaking Isolation

Stakeholders across the Basin often work in isolation despite facing similar challenges—climate stress, water scarcity, and environmental uncertainty.

    Shared Space

Providing one shared space for research collaboration, improving access to data, training, and scientific insights.

    African-Led Leadership

Supporting African-led leadership in sustainability science and strengthening the impact of SLC's work.

    Linking Ideas

Connecting people and ideas to create meaningful impact for communities across the Lake Chad Basin.

An Initiative of Sustainability Lake Chad

The LRN is an initiative of the Sustainability Lake Chad (SLC) project, which conducts data-driven research to understand and strengthen the long-term sustainability of agrarian societies around Lake Chad. Through this network, SLC extends its mission by linking researchers, practitioners, and communities across the Basin.

    Research Focus

    Key Research Themes

Reflecting SLC's focus areas, the network brings together expertise across five interconnected research domains critical to the Basin's sustainability.

    Hydrology & Water Resources

Understanding water dynamics, availability, and sustainable management of the Lake Chad Basin's vital water resources.

    Agrarian Societies & Food Security

Research on agricultural practices, food systems, and the resilience of farming communities in the region.

    Climate Change & Environmental Variability

Studying climate impacts, environmental changes, and adaptation strategies for vulnerable communities.

    Livelihoods, Migration & Conflict

Examining the intersection of economic opportunities, population movements, and social stability in the Basin.

    Biodiversity & Ecosystem Services

Protecting and understanding the rich biodiversity and natural resources that sustain Basin communities.

    Our Community

    Who Will Benefit?

The Lake Chad Research Network is designed for a diverse community of stakeholders working towards sustainable development in the Basin. All groups can use LRN to find collaborators, access data, and stay updated on research and events.
